LQRFC were formed in 1980 from a highly successful team from Les Quennevais school, and has participated in rugby union in Jersey, Guernsey and in the English Hampshire competition and beyond continually since then. The club’s membership is drawn from all areas of the island community and membership ranges from 18 years old to over sixty. The club colors are navy blue and red, with this season's home strip predominantly white with navy and red trim, and the change kit predominantly red.
The home ground is in Les Quennevais in St Brelade in the West of the island. Les Quennevais train at 6.30 pm each Wednesday evening at the Jersey Rugby club. Les Q have a strong squad, but are always looking to add strength in depth, and new players will be made very welcome.
Les Quennevais run a cricket team in the Nat West Evening League Division 3, and narrowly missed promotion in the 2010 season. The club is also very socially active.
LQRFC compete in the J promail JRA League, a 7 team competition with 5 sides from Jersey and 2 in Guernsey played on a home and away basis. At the end of the season the top 4 league sides play-off for the Sugden Cup, whilst the remaining 3 challenge for the MacMillan Trophy. There is also the President’s Cup which is a separate knock out competition run during the season.
The team has enjoyed considerable success since its inception, including the League title, the Sugden Cup, the President’s Cup, Numerous MacMillan and Cadet Trophies (now defunct). In 2003 LQRFC won the Hampshire Bowl, this undoubtedly represents the crowning glory of the club’s achievements. To put the magnitude of this success in to perspective the previous team name on the trophy was the Guernsey Rugby Club First XV.
Coached by Jersey 1st XV (playing in English National 1) prop Myles Landick, Les Quennevais are sponsored by Lydian, Jersey's only mineral exploration and development company, and are known as the Lydian Lions.
Les Quennevais ended the 2010/2011 season in second place, having beaten all of the other teams in the league, with the exception of Jersey 2nd XV. Les Q were knocked out of the Hampshire Bowl in March 2011 by a strong New Milton side, having won in the first round of the Hampshire Bowl against United Banks 39 - 5 on 18 December 2010. Les Quennevais are considered "the team to beat" in the 2010 JRA league[1].
